Well, I got a nice Instamatic camera kit for Christmas when I was about 12 years old.. The one with the flashcubes.
Thomas was born and raised in Minneapolis, MN and relocated to Silver City, NM in 2017.
Other than a short time at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, he is self-taught. After first thinking that Ansel Adams was everything in photography, he has since widened his studies to include many other photographers. It’s now a long list that includes Weston, Doisneau, Maier, Weegee, White, DeCarava, Callahan, Winogrand, Kertész, Brassaï and Sander.
Thomas utilizes both film and digital cameras, combining traditional darkroom techniques with digital processing. He has a long-time printing/editing relationship with Minneapolis fine art printer, Tim Kretzmann.
Thomas participated in the Minneapolis Center for Photography with Tom Arndt.
Thomas has exhibited in public spaces that include the offices of Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak and the Northeast Minneapolis Public Library.
He has been accepted into the Minnesota State Fair three times and received Honorable Mention in Photography in both 2012 and 2016.
He has exhibited at Mariah’s Copper Quail, Light Art Space, the Murray Ryan Visitor Center and Revel since arriving in Silver City, NM.
